Bronze plaque sculpted in bas relief representing a “dog” at a standstill signed V. Peter. Overmolding of the work donated by the artist to the state in 1883 and which is currently in the collections of the Musée d’Orsay.

Victor Peter (1840-1918) is a French sculptor and medalist. Student of Devaulx and employee of Alexandre Falguière. Professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. he won several medals at the Salon des Artistes français and at the Universal Exhibitions of 1889 and 1900). He specialized in portraits and animal subjects and excelled in the naturalistic realization of animals in bas-reliefs.
